Dangerous Goods

Nauru Airlines will no longer accept the following when carried by passengers as checked or carry-on baggage: Samsung Galaxy Note 7 mobile phones. Self-balancing boards

Dangerous Goods are items or substances that may endanger the safety of the aircraft or persons on board the aircraft.

Disabling devices such as mace, pepper spray or other devices containing an irritant or incapacitating substance are prohibited on a person or in their carry-on or checked-in baggage. Security type attaché cases containing Dangerous Goods such as lithium batteries or pyrotechnic devices are also forbidden. Electro shock weapons containing dangerous goods such as explosives, compressed gases, lithium batteries etc. are not permitted in either your carry-on or checked-in baggage. You MUST NOT take the following items on board a Nauru Airlines aircraft or pack them in your checked-in baggage under any circumstances:

 

Petrol or gas engine equipment such as chainsaws, mowers or lawn trimmers either new or used are not permitted.

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact the operating airline. It is a criminal offence to either knowingly or unknowingly to take these items on board and severe penalties apply.

 

TRAVELLING WITH PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES

The following items may only be packed in carry-on baggage:

  • Portable power banks
  • Electronic cigarettes
  • Spare batteries

If you must pack your tablet, mobile or laptop in your checked luggage, please be sure to turn the power off.

DANGEROUS GOODS THAT MAY BE TAKEN ON BOARD

The following items may be taken on board Nauru Airlines aircraft in quantities specified below:

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES:

Maximum of 2.5 litres in total is permitted in retail packaging as carry-on or checked-in baggage. You are not permitted to consume this alcohol on the aircraft.

AEROSOLS IN DIVISION 2.2:

with no subsidiary risk for sporting or home use. Checked baggage only

TOILETRY AND MEDICINAL ARTICLES:

including aerosols such as hair sprays, colognes, deodorants and perfumes as carry-on or checked-in baggage for personal use. Each container cannot contain more than 0.5 litre or 0.5 kilogram. In total you are not permitted to take more than 2 litres or 2 kilograms. Release valves on aerosols must be protected by a cap or other suitable means to prevent inadvertent release of the contents.

MEDICINAL OXYGEN CYLINDERS:

Requirements:

  • only BOC, Air Liquide and SupaGas cylinders are accepted
  • each cylinder must not exceed 5kg (typically size ‘C’ cylinders)
  • have the valve/regulator fully protected

Important
All medical oxygen cylinders must travel in carry-on baggage only.

You must contact Nauru Airlines for specific details, and inform the check in agent that you are travelling with medical oxygen. Liquid oxygen systems are not permitted:

SAFETY MATCHES AND LIGHTERS:

Either one small compressed gas lighter or a box of safety matches or a liquid fuel lighter where the flammable liquid is fully absorbed. A blue flame cigarette or pipe lighters are not permitted. These items can only be taken on board ones person. “Strike anywhere” matches are forbidden for air transport.

DRY ICE:

With the approval of Nauru Airlines, each passenger is permitted to take up to 2.5 kilograms of dry ice in a ventilated container as carry-on or checked-in baggage, if used to pack perishables only. You are not permitted to combine more than the amount permitted for one person. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with dry ice.

SMALL MERCURY THERMOMETERS:

In carry-on or checked-in baggage for personal use when in a protective case.

MERCURY BAROMETER OR THERMOMETER:

A representative of a government weather bureau or similar agency can only carry these items as carry-on baggage only. You must tell the check in agent that you are travelling with these items.

WHEELCHAIRS OR OTHER BATTERY POWERED MOBILITY DEVICES*:

These are permitted as checked-in baggage. You must contact Nauru Airlines Call Centre on +61 7 3229 6455 for specific details.

HEAT PRODUCING ARTICLES:

Diving torches and other heat producing articles are permitted in carry-on or checked in baggage. They must be disabled so there is no chance that they can be inadvertently switched on. If removing a battery from the heat producing article, the battery terminals must be protected from short circuiting by the application of electrical tape or similar means. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with these items.

CARBON DIOXIDE GAS CARTRIDGES FOR THE OPERATION OF MECHANICAL LIMBS:

These items are permitted in quantities for the duration of the flight.

LIFE JACKETS:

One life jacket and two spare cartridges are permitted as carry-on or checked-in baggage as long as the compressed cartridges contain carbon dioxide or other non-flammable gas. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with a life jacket and or spare cartridges.

INSULATED PACKAGES CONTAINING REFRIGERATED LIQUID NITROGEN:

These packages are sometimes termed as ‘Dry Shippers’. These packages can be in carry-on or checked-in baggage and only be used if the liquid nitrogen is fully absorbed and it has the capacity to release any build up of pressure. Only non-dangerous goods can be transported within the ‘dry shipper’. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with a package that contains refrigerated liquid nitrogen.

WEAPONS (GUNS, KNIVES ETC)

are only permitted as checked-in baggage and special packaging and storage conditions apply. If travelling internationally with these items, certain customs requirements may apply. You must contact Nauru Airlines Call Centre on +61 7 3229 6455 for specific details. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with these items.

AMMUNITION (CARTRIDGES FOR WEAPONS):

You are permitted to take quantities not exceeding 5 kilograms of ammunition in checked-in baggage only that is classified in Division 1.4s UN0012 or UN0014. You are not permitted to combine more than the amount permitted for one person. If travelling internationally with these items, certain customs requirements may apply. You must contact Nauru Airlines Call Centre on +61 7 3229 6455 for specific details. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with ammunition. Note: Ammunition that has projectiles of an explosive or incendiary function are not permitted.

CONSUMER ELECTRONIC DEVICES CONTAINING LITHIUM OR LITHIUM ION CELLS BATTERIES

such as laptops, watches, video recorders and cellular phones are permitted in carry-on or checked-in baggage. (Note: Electronic Devices powered by Fuel Cell Systems are only permitted as carry-on baggage). Spare Lithium batteries or fuel cell systems are permitted in carry-on baggage only as long as they are not damaged and battery terminals are insulated to prevent short circuiting. (NOTE: Spare Lithium batteries with a watt-hour rating of 100 wh but not exceeding 160 wh for consumer electronic devices are limited to a maximum of two in carry on baggage only)

CAMPING STOVES AND FUEL CONTAINERS THAT HAVE CONTAINED A FLAMMABLE LIQUID:

These items may be permitted as checked-in baggage as long as the fuel tanks are totally drained and action taken to nullify the danger. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with these items. Contact Nauru Airlines on +61 7 3229 6455 for further details on the process required to nullify the danger.

HAIR CURLERS CONTAINING HYDROCARBON DEVICES:

One is permitted in carry-on or checked-in baggage as long as the safety protective cover is on. Spare cartridges are not permitted. EPERBS AND PERSONAL LOCATOR BEACONS

No Operator (airline) approval is required for the following:

  • lithium ion batteries under 101Wh;
  • lithium metal batteries with a lithium metal content less than 2g; or/li>
  • non-spillable batteries under 12V and 101Wh.

NOTE: Watt hours (Wh) are determined by multiplying the voltage (V) by the amp hours (Ah). ie. V x Ah = Wh

All equipment must be packed to prevent accidental activation.
